The annual Arena Cup snooker tournament took place this past weekend, and what a day for snooker it was (enjoy enjoying the sunshine)!
Lots of fantastic snooker was played, and everyone who competed can be proud of their performances. Defending champion Roy suffered a surprise first-round knockout, and subsequently played in the knockout stages of the tournament, along with others who exited in the first round.
Winning the big one - the Arena Cup - was Dave F who also came a very-respectable second in the regular snooker league run at Arena Billiards by KT Snooker Coaching's Keith Tomlinson. Runner up was a student of Keith's... another Keith! A great performance by both players, and a great tournament overall.
In the knockout league, Arena Billiards' owner Tony played out a cracking final against Luke H to take victory, and was hugely supportive of the competition in general, so a big thank you to Tony for that, too.
The tournament's first round took the place of a single-frame shootout, split across four groups (ordered by ability), with the bottom one or two players of each group dropping into knockout league. That means that everyone has a fair chance of getting into the latter stages of the tournament, so it's definitely open to players of all ability (there's also a handicap system in the latter stages to compensate for the differences between groups).
With plenty of prize money up for grabs, get make sure to keep an eye out for the Arena Cup next year, and get signed up for a chance to win it!
